College and Career Readiness Activities begin at Milestones, Inc. July 11 and July 21, 2017

Thanks to our partnership with the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation, eligible middle and high school students preparing for college and career are participating in a free, half-day summer camp at Milestones Riding Stables during June and July.  Activities provided are work-based, giving students interested in horse and stable care the opportunity to experience this work first hand. Students feed, water, and groom horses as well as clean stables.  During June, students from Simon Kenton, Beechwood, Dayton, Scott, and Pendleton County High schools enthusiastically engaged with the horses and worked on their behalf.  During July, students from Holmes, Dixie, and Lloyd High School plan to participate.  There are still a few openings for camps scheduled on July 11 and July 21.  If you know of any students who would love a fun, educational opportunity and are not afraid to get their hands dirty, please contact Linda Lane, CCR Trainer at 859-442-8600, x26, linda.lane@nkces.org.

NKU College of Education “Think Tank” presenting Jessica Lynch

Jessica Lynch is a former Private First Class (PFC) in the United States Army and a former Prisoner of War. On March 23, 2003, she was injured and captured by Iraqi forces after her unit was ambushed in Iraq. She was rescued after nine days in captivity on April 1, 2003 by U.S. special operations forces. Jessica’s rescue was the first successful rescue of an American POW since World War II.

Today, Jessica speaks to various groups around the United States about overcoming her obstacles and how perseverance helped her survive. Jessica further explains that despite the most difficult circumstances – whatever they might be – a positive outlook and determination can truly help individuals live fulfilling lives and accomplish their goals.
