NKAGE sponsored the Middle School Leadership Symposium at Thomas More College on December 8, 2016.
The 250 students came from 18 middle schools in our area to hear Tori Murden McClure who is the President of Spalding University in Louisville, KY. Tori may be best known as the first woman and first American to row solo and unassisted across the Atlantic Ocean. Also, she was the first woman and first American to travel over land to the geographic South Pole.
Her book A Pearl in the Storm was published by Harper Collins. NKCES was able to give each school that attended an autograph copy of the book to place in their library so the students would have access to reading about Tori’s adventure as she crossed the Atlantic Ocean.
The students then broke out into sessions in which they were given high level activities to do to challenge them as a group and individual. The students had a great morning in not only hearing a great speaker but getting to network with other students from around the NKY region.
